At what point do you think you should call the cops on a domestic disturbance? Last night BJ called the cops on our upstairs neighbors after we woke to muffled yelling followed by a very clear shout of "Stay away from me" and a loud enough thud to rattle our apartment.

Apparently from the bit I gathered they denied they were making noise and shit up there when the cops arrive so either it was nothing/business as usual for them or they were lying.

Were we dick neighbors for calling the cops on people just being a bit too loud at 3AM? Should we still call when it happens again? Did she have her chance to get out and should we leave her to be possibly hit/whatever next time and just assume it is again nothing?

No, never

Should we still call when it happens again?

Yes, definitely

Did she have her chance to get out and should we leave her to be possibly hit/whatever next time and just assume it is again nothing?

No. I assume it's a man and woman up there. The whole "nah, it's nothing" schtick comes not only from the man who wants to desperately cover it up, but from her too cause there's a possibility she has nowhere else to go. So, the cops will at least keep them from killing each other until the woman can get out of this situation (hopefully soon)

Yeah it's a couple up there. They fight semi often which is annoying as shit but whatever, last night seemed extra intense though.

Hopefully they don't know it was us who called, though they were loud enough for it to be pretty much half the building who heard it, but I really don't want to deal with crazy splashback for trying to help.

They won't have any idea who called, no. They know they were really loud and hell, maybe more than just you called as well, never know.

The instant you feel it may escalate into a threat to you or your home.

Always a concern. Not saying "buy a shotgun" but...tasers apparently work, aliz had one. Or sharp knives. There was a supreme court decision a while ago apparently saying the cops are mostly there to keep basic societal order, so in a nightmare scenario you might be on your own.

The sad reality is you can't save everyone, particularly if it's an actual domestic abuse scenario, this isn't your prerogative.

Heyyyyy jackfuck you don't call when it's a threat to you. If a woman is screaming bloody murder (and it doesn't sound like sex... Ninja! ) or shouting phrases like Pat heard there, you call to protect her.

That's very true, yes.

...That thing I said about the supreme court decision still applies though, abusers aren't exactly the most stable people and if they decide you're somehow a problem who fucking knows.
