Marvel ultimate Alliance

Gameplay really hasn’t Aged very well but good roster of heroes. I played as the XMen - Cyclops (absolute beast), Storm, Wolverine and Iceman. Some of the levels were pretty cool though considering it was a ps2 game. The Skrull homeworld with Galactus smashing buildings behind you was a highlight

castlevania aria of sorrow

so this game is ok. having played all the gba games now, i think circle of the moon is the best of them, but aria is definitely better than harmony of dissonance. that game was a little weird. soma is kinda lame (you don't want to be dracula? wtf? why not? Laughing Out Loud ), and i don't like how you have to collect souls based on rng to get powers, but its at least a little more obvious where to get some souls than circle was with cards

i'm at 98% of the map, theres one spot i cant figure out for the life of me how to get there

i know konami and IGA are japanese but why the fuck is alucard posing like hes japanese and why is the belnades girl named yoko? also is there any reason she's named belnades because sypha's children should have been belmonts, so did she pop out a lot more babies on the side and split the last names or did she have a bro kicking around who passed on the family name and they hung out with the belmonts?

ehhhhhhh

Rockman X8

Hey, this game isn’t bad at all. I remember liking it when i played it on the ps2 but it’s aged pretty well. Man o’ wars stage is still bad but having played X1-8 in the last year or so it’s not the biggest offender in the series. Blaze Heatnix has the worst Megaman x stage. There’s no margin of error when the lava is rising and you have to climb up

There’s some things in X8 I don’t like, they introduced some unnecessary grind and having to purchase upgrades, even ones you find is kinda lame. Zero getting different weapons is cool, Axl actually plays pretty well and X’s armor, while dumb looking, is pretty good with being able to mix and match pieces

The last stage is kinda annoying, too many spiked areas and lumine giving you a few seconds before he kills you once he’s almost dead is stupid

Overall pretty good though

Vermintide 2 had a free demo and I liked it enough. It's like killing floor or left 4 dead kinda. Heh co-op as the old saying goes.

The "witch hunter" class has pistols and a sword, you can guess what I picked.

Oh also the witch hunters special ability is apparently kinda yelling oaths and it buffs everybody and stuns enemies. Perfect.

edit: This is basically just destiny 2 with a warhammer skin....buuut...you get to decapitate skavens and chaos cultists and dual wield flintlocks. Worth it.

Just finished Judgment, which is basically a Yakuza game that isn’t a Yakuza game. Really, really good. Interesting to have a new set of characters almost completely unrelated to the Yakuza games but still take place in the same world. Story is pretty good, combat is good though Yagami takes a little while to get used to. Kinda disappointed that he learns the Tiger Drop because that’s one of Kiryu’s signature moves that makes him overpowered, but his tiger moveset is pretty OP in its own right

Apparently all Yakuza games are gonna be that new one, where it's turn based combat

not saying you're wrong but i didn't see them say anything about this. as far as i know they haven't talked about what they're doing with the yakuza series going forward

they did just announce lost judgment though, which is a sequel to a game that's all but yakuza in name. lost judgment is definitely a beat em up too and not turned based. so who knows? maybe they'll have judgment be beat em ups and yakuza be turn based?

Mass effect legendary edition

I love these games so I couldn’t help myself with picking this up. Finished playing through ME1 already - this is definitely the version of the game people who haven’t already played the series should play. The upscaled graphics are a nice touch and noticeably better, but it’s the QoL improvements that stand out most. The boost added to the Mako and improvements to the inventory management allowed me to breeze through this game at my fastest pace ever.

I’m playing as Scumbag Full Renegade Shepard. Planning to kill as many characters as I can this run. Made a mistake doing Virmire before recruiting Liara so I was unable to kill Wrex, but I’ll get him in ME3. I’m going to need to look up the best way to kill off as many characters as possible during the suicide mission without making it impossible to continue to ME3. For sure want to eliminate Tali and Garrus.

If you have an old Sheperd you like you can import them into the legendary edition if you have their face code from ME2 or 3. There’s probably going to be some editing necesssary after, skin and hair colors might be messed up with the old codes, but you can easily fix it. I was able to recreate my old Shepard’s pretty faithfully

The way you talk it up I'd definitely be curious if it goes on sale. I know 3 apparently like wrecked the plot or something (But I love fallout and resident evil, so retcons and narrative dissonance are par for the course....after star trek and star wars it can't be that bad)

So is the legendary edition just the first game? If, like you said you're new to it.

The Mass Effect games are great and I definitely, absolutely recommend them. The Legendary Edition is the version to get if you find it at a price you find agreeable - it comes with all three games. for the second and third they've had their resolutions upgraded and come with all the dlc, but the first game has gotten the most improvements. while it still doesn't look amazing (its originally a 2007 release), it does look a considerable amount better. but they've improved gunplay, the tank and inventory management. the inventory management alone is reason to play the legendary edition over the original releases. i don't think i could go back because it was so obtuse

the thing to keep in mind with the vitriol that mass effect 3 received from the internet is it's for the last 15 minutes of the game. literally. the angry fans ignore like 90% of the game (or 99% of the series) and choose to rage over a very small part of the experience. I'm not going to sugarcoat it - it i kinda dumb, but it's absolutely an overreaction. i've also accepted it more everytime I've played it - it's disappointing when you don't know it's coming, but when you know it's coming it's not a big deal. and the rest of the game and series is great up until then. plus, the legendary edition comes with the edited ending and all the dlc for ME3. one of the DLC actually help's make more sense of the ending too, so it doesn't completely come out of nowhere

but they're great games and absolutely worth playing if you have any interest. ME1 is the most traditional RPG of the three. Stats and loot are much more involved, and combat revolves around selecting moves from a menu. the LE improved gunplay so you could play it as a shooter if you wanted to, but it's really more of a menu based RPG disguised as a shooter. there's also planets you can explore by driving around in a tank. some people hate these planets, but most of these segments are optional so you don't have to do them if you don't want to

ME 1 is pretty dated at this point, but it's still my favorite of the three. i like the story the most and because it's the introduction to the series, it feels the most mysterious I guess? be warned though - the beginning is a little slow and it took me until my second story planet before I really got into it.

ME2 and ME3 are something different, but still great games. it gets streamlined in RPG mechanics so stats and loot are dumbed down. the gunplay improves drastically though and they're more TPS with RPG mechanics. you still get XP and level up gaining new skills, and you can still bring up a menu to select your moves, but the basic gunplay is much better. you can hotkey your moves and one move from each companion so you can play the game by pulling up a menu if you want. or you can play it more like an action game

having said all this though, these are rpg games and they don't become generic TPS games. you still select a class when you begin and they all have distinct abilities. it's actually the abilities that make the game the most fun. unless you choose the generic soldier class, which is statistically the most picked class. then its more straight up TPS. there's a total of six classes you can play as.

on my current playthrough of the trilogy I went with an infiltrator. it's more a sniper class, i had the ability to go invisible and hack robotic enemies to help me in fights. a lot of fun!

also while ME2 and ME3 have their combat retooled to be more actionlike, they are still RPGs where you make choices. ME3 makes things a little more cinematic and you're a little less involved but also has some of the best missions in the series too.

if you like sci-fi more than space fantasy, it's a cool series. the anger towards the ending is overblown and overshadows what is otherwisegreat. there's plenty of quality voicework done from actors you'll recognize from other sci-fi series too - keith david, martin sheen. marina sirtis and lance henkriksen are the ones that come off the top of my head

The Saboteur

You play as a comedically stereotypical Irishman working for comedically stereotypical sounding French Resistance and comedically stereotypical sounding British SOE agents against stereotypical Germans.

It's neat though, it's the same people who did "Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction" so its that kinda gta-esque stuff. You have to sneak around or disguise yourself in occupied areas (interesting visual touch is when you liberate an area the sun shines brighter, the more occupied the more monochrome)

Controls aren't tremendously optimized for pc maybe, or that could be the damn hand, but yeah its good times mostly.
